About Us

Breeding with Purpose, Raising with Heart

I can’t remember a time in my life without a dog. My journey has included Dalmatians in both the show ring and obedience, and later, when my children were young, two Goldendoodles who became true members of our family. They attended kids’ activities, joined me on countless hikes, and were part of everyday life. Over time, I realized my passion wasn’t the show ring, but raising healthy, well-balanced family companions.

Strong genetics, sound structure, and stable temperament are the foundation of our breeding program. Learning and applying best practices in health testing and early development is an ongoing journey, and I use that knowledge to give every puppy the best possible start. Early Neurological Stimulation begins at just three days old and continues through the critical early weeks, alongside daily handling and thoughtful exposure to new experiences — including different textures, sounds, environments, and gentle challenges — to help raise confident, resilient puppies.

We are located on 55 acres on the edge of Ottawa, where our dogs have room to run, explore, and just be dogs. Trails, open space, and outdoor play are part of daily life, supporting both physical and mental development. It’s common to see muddy paws, leaves, and sticks tangled in fur after hours of play, followed by dogs who are eager to curl up at your feet, offer belly rubs, or convince themselves they are lap dogs.

Our dogs are first and foremost family pets and live as part of our household, not in kennels. This hands-on, family-based approach helps puppies transition more easily into their new homes. We are committed to transparency, ethical breeding practices, and providing ongoing support to our puppy families long after they go home. While our house may be full and the vacuum works overtime, we wouldn’t change a thing.

Ethical Breeding with Purpose

Happy Healthy Bernedoodles

At Capital Doodles, our focus is simple: healthy dogs, stable temperaments, and lifelong responsibility. We believe that ethical breeding and responsible rescue both play important roles in improving overall dog welfare. Our program is built on transparency, science-based health testing, and thoughtful decision-making — always with a dog’s long-term well-being at the center.

Ethical breeding is, at its core, about responsibility. We raise Bernedoodle puppies from carefully health-tested parents with the goal of producing happy, healthy family companions who are well suited to modern life. Families continue to choose Bernedoodles for their temperament, companionship, and adaptability — and that demand is not disappearing.

The real issue is not demand, but irresponsible breeding that prioritizes profit over health, temperament, and welfare. Ignoring this reality does not eliminate the problem; it simply leaves space for puppy mills and unethical sellers to fill the gap.

Our goal is to offer a responsible alternative. Through thoughtful pairings, comprehensive health testing, structured early development, and lifetime responsibility for the dogs we produce, we work to reduce harm at the source and support better long-term outcomes for both dogs and their families. When done correctly, ethical breeding helps protect dogs, supports informed families, and reduces the downstream impact on shelters and rescues.

Ethical breeding isn’t about perfection — it’s about responsibility, transparency, and care for life.

Our Health & Ethics Promise

We believe ethical breeding is not defined by what you breed, but by how you breed.

Our promise is to prioritize health and well-being, avoid extremes that compromise quality of life, and take responsibility for our dogs for life — guided by evidence, care, and transparency.
