General FAQ

Bernedoodles come in a wide variety of colours . Many Bernedoodles will fade or lighten over time, depending on the genes inherited from the poodle parent. How much fading occurs — and when — varies by dog.

If you’re interested in learning more about coat genetics, we recommend this educational resource:

Bernedoodles can vary in size. Adult size is influenced by factors such as the size of the parent dogs, gender, generation, and genetics. While we provide estimated size ranges based on the parents, adult size cannot be guaranteed.

  • Standard Bernedoodles typically range from approximately 50–100+ lbs
  •  Small Standard / Medium Bernedoodles typically range from 45–60 lbs
  • Mini - under 45 lbs

Let us know the size (weight/height) you are looking for and we can help guide you to the correct litter.

Bernedoodles require regular grooming to keep their coats healthy and mat-free. Coat types can vary, but all Bernedoodles benefit from:

  • Routine brushing at home

  • Professional grooming approximately every 6–8 weeks

While some Bernedoodles shed less than others, all Bernedoodles can shed to some degree. Early exposure to brushing, nail trims, and clippers helps make grooming a positive experience for life.

Bernedoodles need regular exercise for both physical and mental health, but young puppies should not be over-exercised.

Repetitive movements, jumping, twisting, and high-impact activities can place stress on developing joints. Low-impact play with opportunities to rest is best until growth plates have closed.

Mental enrichment is equally important and includes:

  • Puzzle toys and slow feeders

  • Training games

  • Enrichment toys such as Kongs

Always follow your veterinarian’s guidance when increasing activity levels.

Yes. All of our breeding dogs are genetically health tested through Embark. We use these results to help ensure our puppies are clear of known, testable genetic conditions.

Each dog’s Embark results are linked on their individual profile, and we’re happy to answer questions about specific results.

In addition to comprehensive genetic testing through Embark, our breeding dogs complete breed-appropriate orthopedic and specialty health testing.

Depending on the individual dog and age, testing may include:

  • Hips: OFA or PennHIP evaluations
  • Elbows: OFA evaluations
  • Patellas: OFA evaluations
  • Eyes: CAER (Canine Eye Registry) examinations
  • Cardiac: Cardiac screening when indicated

All testing is selected thoughtfully and based on current veterinary recommendations and best practices for Bernedoodles.   We’re always happy to answer questions about specific testing or results.

There are many appropriate ways to feed a Bernedoodle, including commercial diets, raw diets, or a combination.

The most important factor is ensuring the diet is nutritionally balanced and appropriate for your dog’s age, size, and health needs. Commercial foods that meet WSAVA and AAFCO guidelines are more likely to provide complete nutrition.

If feeding raw, proper formulation and food safety are essential. Always consult your veterinarian when choosing or changing your dog’s diet.

Consistent, positive training is key to raising a well-adjusted Bernedoodle.

Before bringing your puppy home, it’s helpful for all household members to agree on basic rules and cues. Consistency helps puppies learn more quickly and reduces confusion.

I provide access to Baxter & Bella training resources at a discounted rate and can recommend other reputable trainers as well.

All of our Bernedoodle puppies go home with their first set of age-appropriate vaccinations and have been dewormed according to a standard veterinary schedule.

Because puppies are not fully vaccinated when they go home, it’s important to continue their vaccine series with your veterinarian as their immune system matures.

Flea and tick prevention is also an important part of ongoing care, especially in areas where ticks are common. Your veterinarian can recommend an appropriate prevention plan based on your puppy’s age, size, and lifestyle.

You should also speak with your veterinarian about lifestyle vaccines, such as Bordetella and Leptospirosis, which may be recommended depending on factors like exposure to other dogs, training classes, grooming, boarding, hiking, or time spent near wildlife and water sources.

Your veterinarian will guide you on:

  • Completing the core vaccination schedule

  • Determining which lifestyle vaccines are appropriate

  • Ongoing deworming needs

  • Flea and tick prevention options

Following your vet’s recommendations helps protect your puppy during this critical growth period and supports long-term health.
